'Teleporting' over the internet
BBC: Computer scientists in the US are developing a system which would allow people to "teleport" a solid 3D recreation of themselves over the internet.
Professors Todd Mowry and Seth Goldstein of Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania think that, within a human generation, we might be able to replicate three-dimensional objects out of a mass of material made up of small synthetic "atoms".

Star Trek pledge of allegiance gets kid suspended
Boingboing: A young Star Trek fan was suspended from school for reciting his own version of the Pledge of Allegiance, in which he pledged to the United Federation of Planets. His mom has posted the hilarious story:
"So, anyway. What did he do?" I picked at the hem of my sweatshirt, looked just to the right of her face. I couldn't meet her eyes. I felt nervous. I felt underdressed. I wondered where 8 was.

Ready for a real relationship? Ditch the
pretty boys and grab yourself a geek
By TRACEY LOMRANTZ
NYDAILYNEWS: Christina Aguilera recently traded in piercings for petticoats, apparently making the usual Marilyn Monroe morph. But there's more than meets the eye: Sure, she's blond, buxom and sweet-voiced now, but she's also emulating the classic bombshell in matters of the heart.

In May, many bloggers received e-mails telling them to register or face having their blogs declared illegal.
But one anonymous China-based blogger told Reporters Without Borders that when he phoned the MII to register he was told not to bother because "there was no chance of an independent blog getting permission to publish".

Michael Ladeen on Iran
The War Against the Torture Masters
Will any Western leader proclaim the Iranian elections a fraud?
NRO:The cheerless creatures who rule the Islamic republic of Iran have developed a particularly wicked use of torture. Not only do they use the full panoply of physical and psychological horrors on their captives, but they then send the victims back into their homes and neighborhoods for brief periods of “parole” or “medical leave,” so that their friends and families can see with their own eyes the brutal effects of the torture. The clear intent of this practice is to intimidate the population at large, to break the will of would-be dissenters and opponents, and to maximize the effects of the victims themselves, for the brief respite from the pain of the prisons is mercilessly accompanied by the certainty that the agony will soon resume...

PSP Hackers Go Retro
Wired: "Hello World!"
That's the traditional phrase that programmers display when they create their first piece of software for an unfamiliar operating system. Owners of Sony's handheld PSP game system were delighted to hear May 5 that a hacker had managed to write a small program that displayed those words on a PSP. They wondered what would be next.

DVD Decrypter Forced Offline
Slyck: DVD copying would appear to be within the realms of fair use. Just about everyone copies their CD collection for friends and family, so many figure why should DVDs be any different. Apparently the enforcement arm of the copyright industry does not share this sentiment, and has aggressively pursued those distributing or creating DVD copying software.

Internet Explorer exploit!
JGiannotti.com: This IE exploit will freeze the users Internet Explorer almost immediately after clicking it. It works by an HTML file trying to load an image with excessively large dimensions specified by the coding. Right as the image begins to load, IE just starts to lock up and the user might possibly hear some beeping noises coming from the inside of the computer, and possibly a blue error screen. 97% of the time, this ultimately results in the user being forced restart his or her computer. No long-term harm is done to any computer from this crash, it is just a simple overload which causes the computer to shut down.

Hexus.net: For all of you out there currently sucking on or licking a DVD disk you've burned yourself, STOP. You obviously need their media if you're conscious about catching something after you run your tongue along the polycarbonate sandwich.

Slyck: ThePirateBay.org often laughed in the face of the copyright industry. Whenever ThePirateBay received a copyright violation notice, it would often post the violation, coupled with a humorous response. Not only was ThePirateBay well known for its defiance of the copyright industry, it was a well respected resource for it BitTorrent tracking abilities.
